EXERCISE
If you think your guinea pigs fat, they may not be.   Guinea pigs are supposed to have some of that chub. But to make sure   your guinea pigs don't get over weight, here are ideas. Let your guinea pig run outsite or in a inclosed place( they love that.)And make sure there supervised! in a closed off place, set up blocks, houses and tunnels put food on top of them. To get the food they have to stretch and climb, and   guinea pigs should stretch every day to keep healthy.
Grooming
Guinea pigs have simply wonderful fur. Guinea pigs groom themselves everyday, so that their fur will be nice and healthy.

We can help our guinea pigs stay clean by doing somethings every once and a while.

Brushing/combing:
Short haired guinea pigs should be brushed with a soft brissle brush every day, or every second day. Long haired guinea pigs should be brushed every day. For long haired guinea pigs, use a comb, or a cat grooming brush (the kind with the metal brissles).

Baths:
Along with brushing, guinea pigs need baths to keep their skin and fur healthy. For bathing, use a sink, or a tub of some sort to place the guinea pig. For shampoo, use a mild dog or cat shampoo (not the tick or flea kinds). For special made shampoos, go to www.gorgeousguineas.com.

Teeth/Nails:
Guinea pigs teeth and nails never stop growing. So we need to make sure that they don't get too long. For nails, buy a guinea pig or cat nail clipper. Follow the instructions. To help the nails not get so long, place a rock in the cage for the guinea pig to scratch on. For teeth, you can buy wood chew blocks to help the guinea pig keep it's teeth short. If your guinea pig's teeth are too long, take it to the vet. The vet will trim them.
Food
Guinea pigs LOVE TO EAT! To make sure you know what your guinea SHOULD and SHOULD NOT be eating, please read this info!

Veggies and Fruit:
One of a guineas favorite things is a fresh, crisp, veggie or fruit. Guinea pigs need vitamin C and ther vitamins to live, so make sure that they get eggies or fruits every day. FRUITS AND VEGGIES GUINEAS CAN EAT: Apples, Kiwis, melons, citrus fruit (oranges...etc.) grapes, lettuce, carrots, carrot greens, sweet red peppers, parsley.
DO NOT FEED YOUR GUINEAS:   rhubarb, uncooked beans,   and germinating potatoes.

Hay:
Hay is a daily favorite for guinea pigs. Hay is high in fibre, and it tastes very good in a guinea pig's opinion. You should give your guinea pig hay everyday, so your guinea pig can stay healthy. And some kinds of hay even help their fur look healthy and shiney!

Guinea Pig Pellets:
Guinea pig pellets are sold in most pet stores, and are important in your guinea pig's diet. Pellets contain vitamins, and minerals, and protein, and things like that. When you buy guinea pig pellets, make sure it has added vitamin C, because guinea pigs neeed lots of vitamin C to live.

Treats:
If you are training your guinea pig to do something, or you are just wanting to please your guinea, treats are a very good thing to have.

You can buy commercial treats, which often have fibre and vitamins. Commercial treats are found at almost any pet store, but make sure that they are guinea pig treats before you buy them.

You can also make your own treats. There are some good recipies for guinea pig treats on www.guineapigfun.com (see in links). For even more recipes, go to our Recipe page.
